About Susan

Susan didn’t always want to be a writer. At the age of five she set her sights on becoming a cowgirl. But she was always and forever a book hound. From a very early age she was always dragging books around, and one of her proudest accomplishments was winning a contest in Miss Landry's first-grade class for reading the most books during the year. She spent so much time in the school library that the librarian restricted her visits and told her to “cool it” (in so many words).

Susan enjoyed an idyllic childhood. The highlight was attending second grade in a three-room schoolhouse way out in the sticks in Colorado. A cowgirl's wish come true. After earning English and education degrees in Colorado and completing graduate work in comparative literature in California, she spent time in Greece and Canada, then returned to Colorado and began a career in book publishing. She’s been a nonfiction book editor for many years as well as a teacher of English and creative writing.

Susan is passionate about horses and old Hollywood movies . . . and writing, of course. She and her husband (#1 passion) live in Colorado with their Labrador retrievers and lots of wildlife.
