Starlight in the Garden of Stone

a novel by

Susan C. Conley

Their friendship has trapped her between two worlds, where it's impossible to distinguish

between reality and illusion, truth and deception.

After her husband's shocking death, Adrienne feels like her life ended, too. Her writing career has fizzled out. Friends no longer call. And she's haunted by many unanswered questions that keep her trapped in the past.

The only thing holding Adrienne together is her running the amphitheatre stairs at Colorado's Red Rocks among the massive sandstone formations. But one day even this respite is denied her when she stumbles on a loose rock, slams into the bleachers below, and sprains her ankle.

When she goes for help, she encounters a woman working in her garden just below Red Rocks. Immediately Adrienne senses that she has momentarily crossed over into another reality, a secluded space of tranquillity and timelessness. The two women become friends, and the mysterious Cille DeSanto, who is also a writer, encourages Adrienne to write her novel and offers her refuge from the awful shadows and nightmares that torment her. Ms. DeSanto's unique brand of spirituality makes Adrienne uneasy, but otherwise she's the perfect friend and Adrienne idolizes her.

When she sets out to reestablish her writing career and forge a path forward, Adrienne discovers that her life and marriage were not at all as they seemed. But as she soon learns, neither is Cille DeSanto. Not by a long shot.

Before long Ms. DeSanto's many dark secrets start to unravel, which threatens to destroy the women's friendship, Adrienne’s new-found faith, and any hope of a new life.
